Award Time for Watergate Youth

Watergate Youth GroupThere was standing room only at the Irishtown Youth Hub recently as members of the Watergate Youth Group received their Certificates of Achievements following a successful and enjoyable year.

The young people, who hail from the close knit Watergate community in Limerick city, were presented with their Certificates by Catherine Kelly, Director, Limerick Youth Service.

‘You should be proud of your achievements with Watergate Youth Group,’ said Ms. Kelly who extended her congratulation to the eight young people.

‘As I look at you here I know some of you will go on to become junior leaders and even volunteers,’ continued Ms. Kelly who reflected that during her time with Limerick Youth Service she has met people who started out as members of youth clubs and are now facilitating them!

Catherina Barrett, coordinator Watergate Youth Group, extended her congratulations to the group of Christopher Carroll, Jake Carroll, Brendan Fleming, Niall Hourigan, Luke McAllister, Dean McNamara, Robert McNamara and Joseph O’Callagahan.

‘We had great fun and you were a joy to work with,’ said Ms. Barrett who thanked their families and the community for their support.

As part of Watergate Youth Group the members attended youth discos, went swimming and participated in a variety of workshops including woodwork and music programmes.

The benefits of the latter were heard by all as the octet thrilled the packed youth hub with a self pinned rap that chronicled their experiences with Watergate Youth Group.

Ms. Barrett also extended her thanks to the junior leaders, volunteers and facilitators that contributed to the group.

Watergate Youth Group is open to young people in the Watergate community and is part of Limerick Youth Service.

Now in its fortieth year, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to supporting and encouraging young people to be active participants in shaping their futures.
