Awards for King’s Island Youth

King's Island GDYPThere was standing room only at Limerick Youth Service’s Nicholas St Youth Space recently, as sixteen young people from St. Mary’s Park & Lee Estate were honoured for their achievements with King’s Island Garda Youth Diversion Project.

The learners completed a diverse range of programmes from Healthy Cooking & Nutrition project & and Personal Development course to a Drug & Alcohol Education Programme, with two young people, Tyreke McNamara and Michael Leo, graduating from an iscoil programme.

‘You should be very proud of your achievements,’ said Mr. Barrett, adding ‘you showed great dedication and commitment to the many programmes we covered.’

Catherine Kelly, Director, LYS and Inspector Luke Conlon, An Garda Síochána, presented the awards and echoed Mr. Barrett’s sentiments in congratulating the young people for their outstanding achievements.

Ms. Kelly also paid tribute to the King’s Island GYDP staff and volunteers including the aforementioned Tommy Barrett, Aoife Mangan, Godfrey Rondozai and Mary Mulqueen who was on placement from LIT.

John McNamara, Evolve Life Skills, presented Certificates of Achievements to young people who completed the Personal Development and Life Skills Programme.

‘Your dedication and enthusiasm greatly impressed me, particularly last month as we climbed Croagh Patrick on one on the coldest and wettest days of the years,’ explained Mr. McNamara.

The graduating members of King’s Island GYDP who were honoured on the evening were, Chelsea Bussoli, Delvin Hayes, Gearoid Hayes, Chloe Heelan, Jason Heelan, Michael Hourgian, Calvin Hughes, Luke Leamy, Michael Leo, Adrian Mallard, Tyreke McNamara, Jason Sheehan, Amy Waters, Gary Waters, Robert Waters & Stephanie Waters.

King’s Island GYDP is supported by An Garda Síochána, Irish Youth Justice Service and the Dept. Children & Youth Affairs.

Limerick Youth Service, now in its 40th year, would like to congratulate all at King’s Island GYDP on their success and wish them the very best for the future.
