Ballynanty Youth Win Again
Young people from Ballynanty emerged victorious and retained their title at a Garda Youth Diversion tournament held in Limerick recently.
Host by The Factory: Southside Youth Space, teams from Limerick Youth Service’s King’s Island, Irishtown and Ballynanty Garda Youth Development Projects, joined their counterparts from Southill, Newcastlewest and Ballincurra Weston, in a tournament that saw friendly competition and banter between the respective teams.
‘The boys thoroughly deserved their victory and were rewarded for weeks of training,’ beamed an ecstatic Frankie Daly, Youth Justice Work, Limerick Youth Service.
It is the second time that the young people won the tournament having been successful at last year’s event.
‘I am extremely proud of the lads, they are a credit to themselves, their families and community,’ continued Mr. Daly.
Ronan O’Connor, Irishtown GYDP, congratulated Ballynanty on their success and thanked everyone involved in organising the day.
‘Yes our lads were disappointed but overall they enjoyed it and it was great to meet their piers from other projects,’ said Ronan.
Garda Youth Diversion Projects are community based programmes that work with young people to develop their social skills and sense of community through a diverse range of activities.
Now in its 40th year, Limerick Youth Service, which facilitates three GYDP in Ballynanty, Irishtown and King’s Island, would like to thank An Garda Síochána, Irish Youth Justice Service and the Dept of Children and Youth Affairs for their support.
