Involvement Training for Abbeyfeale’s Youth

Young people from Abbeyfeale recently completed an IT course with a difference after they finished an eleven week ‘Involvement Training’ programme facilitated by Limerick Youth Service.

The group, who are fourth and fifth year students in Abbeyfeale, completed a number of modules which focused on junior leadership training, decision making, rights and responsibilities and communications skills among others.

‘The training will stand to them and they can pass on the skills learned to their peers,’ said Claire Donaldson, course coordinator, Limerick Youth Service.

‘During the eleven weeks we also covered Leslie Button’s Personal and Social Development module,’ continued Ms. Donaldson.

Website 2013As a reward for their hard work the group held a residential at Boland Meadows, Foynes with Ms. Donaldson full of praise for their housework laughing that ‘they actually tided up after themselves’

Ms. Donaldson thanked the young people for their commitment to the course and also expressed her gratitude to her co-facilitator, Sarah Coyle, her colleagues at Limerick Youth Service and Coláiste Íde agus Iosef.

The young people who completed the Involvement Training programme were Laura Broderick, Chantelle Murphy, Amy Smith, Emma Cullinane, Saoirse Redmond, Tanya Walsh and Shannon Hayes.

Now in its fortieth year, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to supporting and encouraging young people to be active participants in shaping their futures.
