Join our Award Winning Bakery Course

Interested in a career in the baking industry? Would you like to join one of Limerick’s leading bakery courses and learn from a top baker and his team?

Limerick Youth Service (LYS) has a limited number of spaces on our Bakery Project for 16-20 year olds who are interested in a career in t the baking industry, one of Ireland’s leading employers.

As part of the course trainees will study the many aspects of the baking industry including an understanding of ingredients and methods used to produce bread and confectionary products.

On successfully completing their first year trainees will received a Food Manufacturing Certificate with a FDQ Diploma in Professional Bakery Skills (QQI Level 4) award on completion of year two.

Trainees will also have the opportunity to attend and take part in competitions for the Alliance of Bakery Students & Trainees (ABST) Conference, one of the most prestigious event in the baking industry.

LYS has an excellent record at the ABSTs with former trainees winning numerous awards at the competition which is held at the famous  Alton Towers Resort, England.

Away for the hot stoves trainees also baking theory, IT skills and communications with a focus on the social and personal development of the young person a key feature of programmes at LYS.

On graduating from the course trainees progress to further education/employment with former learners studying at the City of Liverpool College and working with the catering department at the famous Dromoland Castle, Co. Clare.

Supported by the Limerick Clare Educational Training Board, the Bakery Project is based at LYS’s Community Training Centre, Lr. Glentworth St, Limerick.
