Students with Limerick Youth Service (LYS) presented a cheque for €450 to Milford Care Centre recently after holding a fundraising coffee morning for the Castletroy based facility.

The young people, who are studying their Leaving Cert Applied (LCA) at LYS’ Community Training Centre, Limerick, held the coffee morning at as part of a communications and vocational preparation module.

‘As part of the module the students had to create a mini-company/enterprise,’ explained LYS’ Claire King.

‘The young people decided to create a mini catering company, hold a coffee morning and donate the proceeds to Milford Care Centre, a task they successfully achieved,’ said Clare, a teacher with LYS.

The young people had a busy few mornings as they cooked some delicious treats for the coffee morning, which included a special Brazilian marshmallow cake kindly made by the mother of one the students who is from Brazil.

Claire thanked the Limerick public for their support and reserved a special word of praise for the LCA students who went ‘above and beyond’ in completing their task.

The LCA is one of a number of education and training courses and programmes for young people (16-21yrs) that is delivered at LYS’ Community Training Centre, Lr. Glentworth St, Limerick and other youth spaces.

This provision is supported by Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and co-funded by the Irish Government and the European Social Fund as part of the ESF Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning 2014 – 2020.
