Lava Javas was awash with colour recently, as the famed youth café played host to Limerick’s first Pride Youth Party with several special guests dropping by!
Organised by members of Limerick Youth Service and GOSSH Youth, the Pride Youth Party was an opportunity for young people to celebrate Limerick’s young LGBTI community.
Among the many activities on the night was a t-shirt printing machine, information stands, music and plenty of homemade culinary delights!
‘This event is fantastic and it’s great to see so many young people here,’ said Christian Moretti, the current Mr. Gay Limerick one of the many special guests in attendance.
‘It is extremely important that young people celebrate diversity and equality and events like this are great ways of doing that,’ added Christian, who was joined at the event by Michelle Brown, Miss Gay Limerick.
When asked about how he feels the lives of young LGBTI people have changed in Ireland in recent years Christian was quite positive.
‘When I ‘came out’ fifteen years ago I was scared and ashamed but now I think many young people find it easier, although sadly there are some who still find it tough and that is where events like this can help,’ Christian said.
Reflecting on the Pride Youth Party, Limerick Youth Service’s John Real thanked everyone for their support with special mention to Rachel and the team GOSHH.
‘It was a very great night and the young people really enjoyed themselves,’ said John, Youth Worker, Lava Javas.
It was a busy weekend for members of Limerick Youth Service and GOSHH as they also took part in Saturday’s Pride Parade and then enjoyed yet another party at Lava Javas.
A member of Youth Work Ireland, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to supporting and encouraging young people to be active participants in shaping their futures.
