Southside Youth Cafe Turns Two
Limerick Youth Service’s third, youngest and some say trendiest youth cafe, Laff Caff, celebrated its second birthday on Friday last, June 21st.
Located at The Factory, Southside Youth Space, Laff Caff has grown in popularity and become a firm fixture in the lives of so many young people on the city’s southside.
‘It’s hard to believe we’ve been here two years,’ said Priscilla Sheehan, Limerick Youth Service, who has been Laff Caff’s coordinator since its opening in 2011. ‘Laff Caff runs a drop-in service where young people can hang out, relax with their friends and make new ones,’ explained Priscilla.
Although our Youth Cafes do not have set programmes if there is interest from our young people to run a certain module or have a field trip somewhere, then our youth committee get going,’ continued Priscilla.
Asked how the Laff Caff got its name Priscilla replied with a smile, ‘because young people have a laugh here!’ Laff Caff adheres to the principles of Limerick Youth Service’s other youth cafes in that it is run by young people, for young people.
Limerick Youth Service would like to wish all at the Laff Caff a very happy birthday and thank the staff, volunteers and young people for their continued support. Now in its fortieth year, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to encouraging and supporting young people to be active participants in shaping their future.
