Volunteer Evening & Launch of Ger McDonnell Memorial Cycle
Friday, May 24th promises to be a busy evening for Limerick Youth Serve (LYS) as it hosts a special 40th anniversary gathering for volunteers and launches the Ger McDonnell Memorial Cycle 2013 at the Clarion Hotel, Steamboat Quay, Limerick at 7:30pm.
‘The volunteer gathering is our way of saying thank you to all volunteers that have and still contribute to LYS,’ said Catherine Kelly, Director, LYS, adding ‘we simply could not provide our services without their support.
The event is open to all volunteers, past and present and is an opportunity for all to catch up with old friends and make new ones.
The evening will also see the launch of the Ger McDonnell Memorial Cycle with LYS chosen as this year’s benefactor.
‘We’re delighted the Ger McDonnell committee chose LYS and are looking forward to the cycle on July 27th,’ continued Ms. Kelly.
Now in its 5th year, the Ger McDonnell Memorial Cycle is dedicated to the memory of Ger McDonnell, the first Irishman to climb K2, the second highest mountain on Earth. Sadly Ger lost his life on the decent.
‘We’re delighted to that LYS is the year’s benefactor as Ger and his family have close ties with LYS, as Ger was a member of Kilcornan Youth Club in his younger days,’ explained Damien O’Brien, Ger McDonnell Cycle Committee.
Ger’s family and friends will help launch the cycle which retraces a route that Ger took from his hometown to Doolin, Co. Clare.
The cycle sets off at 9am on Saturday, July 27th with sponsorship cards available from LYS, 5 Lower Glentworth St, Limerick.
LYS looks forward to seeing you all at the Clarion Hotel, on Friday, May 24th in what will be an evening filled with ceol, caint agus craic and special guests galore.
LYS remains committed to supporting and encouraging young people to be active participants in shaping their futures.
