‘YELL Yhdessä’ Shout Teens
‘YELL Yhdessä’ shouted young people from Limerick Youth Service and the Finnish city of Kuopio, as they completed part one of an international youth exchange.
The teenagers, who are from LYS Northside Youth Space and the Finnish youth organisation, Kuopiob Kaupunki, spent a week taking part in a number of workshops and explored the Midwest.
YELL stands for Youth Empowerment Looks at Limerick while Yhdessä is the Finnish word for together hence, YELL Yhdessä!
‘The youth exchange focused on leadership and the involvement of young people in their local community as well as capturing and promoting the positive contribution of young people,’ said Stacey Lyons, LYS.
As part of the youth exchange the young people took part in a variety of workshops, enjoyed some team building in Ballyhass Lakes, hosted an Irish-Finnish cultural evening and cheered on Limerick Pride.
Stacey was full of praise for the Limerick teens who went ‘above and beyond’ in organising the youth exchange.
‘They were excellent ambassadors for LYS and really made and really made the Finns feel welcome,’ said Stacey adding with a smile ‘they even taught them Limerick slang!’
The next step of the youth exchange will be in October as the young people travel to Kuopio in north east Finland as they continue to say ‘YELL Yhdessä!’
YELL Yhdessä is an EU Erasmus+ accredited international youth work programme that is supported by Léargas.
A member of Youth Work Ireland, LYS remains committed to connecting with young people and supporting them to reach their full potential.
